Still a virgin? (from CDAN)

Let's start the party with a fairly easy item, and one that just might be revealed when Enty does his reveal-a-palooza at year's end:
I don't know if this was a pickup line or if it is actually true, but this almost A list star in a huge franchise confessed to two women at a recent party that he was a virgin. Hmmm. He said he was looking for the right woman. This guy could have just about anyone he wants so I don't know. It might explain a certain break up not too long ago.
Popular guesses when the item was first posted were: Shia LaBeouf, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Taylor Lautner. Like Lainey, Enty sometimes drops hints about his blinds in other posts. This item was originally posted November 18. On December 13, Enty ran a photo of Lautner in his randoms; the Twilight star was posing with a group of cheerleaders, with a caption that read, "I'm pretty sure Taylor Lautner could find a date here." A hint? Maybe.

What are the clues in the original item?
  • Almost A-list
  • Huge franchise
  • "Could have just about anyone he wanted"
  • (semi?) Recent break-up
Now let's look a more complete list of popular guesses, culled from CDAN, Gawker, and Blind Gossip.
  • Taylor Lautner
  • Shia LaBeouf
  • Daniel Radcliffe
  • Rupert Grint
  • Jesse Eisenberg
  • Kellan Lutz
Looking at the clues, we can cross off Jesse Eisenberg immediately. A huge film is not a huge franchise. Similarly, I think (hope?) the world can agree that Kellan Lutz is less likely than his Twilight co-star Lautner. IMDB may tell a different tale, though; Lutz has more films in the pipeline than does Lautner, but Lautner is also headlining his next post-Twi film. Lautner is also half of the Team Edward/Team Jacob frenzy, whereas in the huge franchise, Lutz is largely relegated to the background. My gut tells me this is not Kellan Lutz, even without examining his on-again, off-again relationship with Annalynne McCord.

Enty has also called Ashley Greene, Alice in Twilight, a B- (and barely) solely due to the franchise. Lutz is less important in the films (really, he only flexes his arms a lot from what I've seen in a movie and a half), but may have the edge when it comes to resumes... which would probably make them about equivalent in Enty's eyes.

For similar reasons, we can probably also axe Rupert Grint. As much as I love him, he's third man in the Potterverse wheel, much as Ron Weasley is. Rich he may be, with a huge fanbase of his own, but could he open a film? Could he come close to opening a film? It's not likely. Enty is sometimes generous with his labels, but I doubt he would call Grint "almost A-list."

So we're down to Radcliffe, LaBeouf, and Lautner. Of these three, both Radcliffe and LaBeouf have both spoken in interviews about losing their virginity (Radcliffe to an older woman; LaBeouf when he was 18), and the latter, at least, has been in publicized relationships. Seems that he, at least, is very unlikely to be claiming virginity. Of all the names on this last, too, Radcliffe and LaBeouf may have passed "almost A-list" and actually become A-list. They both headline their franchises. Transformers may not be "huge," either... unless Enty was referencing the size of the machines in a punnish way, which is not outside the realm of possibility. But he did also headline Wall Street 2 and has been the lead in other films, so of everyone on the list, he seems most likely to simply be A-list, if a lower tier of A-list than some. Enty also mentioned an article in this post that Shia was in six straight #1 movies. That doesn't make him a good actor... but it does make him bankable, which is what matters.

So now we're down to Taylor Lautner. Is he almost A-list? That's where I have the most issue with this guess. I'm not sure I want to live in a world in which Lautner is almost A-list, but then again, I'm not much for the travesty that is Twilight. Sorry, fans. But he is one of the major players in the franchise, and got a lot of extra press for beefing up and hanging on to the role (and kudos to him for that). He's an attractive young man, but prior to bulking up, it was hard to call him a standout in the looks department. Part of that was youth, of course, but personally, I find him kinda middling on the hotness scale. But this isn't about my personal thoughts on hotness. It's about the blind.

And, in the blind, we must contend with Enty's own definitions for A-list. There are a lot of differences in opinion regarding who is and isn't A-list, and what that really means, but that will be addressed more fully in a future post. For this, however, we're dealing with Enty, who's said a few things in the past about the lists:

  • Headlining a franchise makes someone A-list (or a show; that makes you A-list TV)
  • Being able to open a mainstream film (not horror) as the top-billed actor, or
  • Being a draw to the film in a financial sense (as in, wow, so-and-so is in this, even in a small role; Ima go see it!)
  • Winning an Oscar tends to secure someone a place at B-list status, at least*
*this one will definitely be dealt with in a later post, as it's much debated, even amongst CDAN readers and I can't find the post in which he said it; luckily, it doesn't apply to our fellows today

So who of our main contenders might be A-list or almost A-list? Really, I think, there's only two: LaBeouf and Lautner, though it pains me to even almost give that label to either of them. LaBeouf is much more likely to be almost A-list for the reasons discussed above. But Lautner doesn't have much in the way of credits or anything... except he brings with him, to any mainstream film, a giant contingent of Twihards. Wanna know just how popular Lautner is? Go look at his Wikipedia page. You don't have to go any further than that. People apparently love them some young, shirtless werewolves.

Dan Radcliffe headlined a mega franchise. According to Enty, that would make him A-list, period... but even Enty might actually hesitate at calling Radcliffe an A. Much as I love the kid, my verdict is "we'll see." Since they've really only done the franchise, and because we've watched them grow up, it's going to be damned hard for anyone to see past their characters (also, DanRad is rich as hell now and can pretty much do whatever he wants, which seems to be theater). He might call Radcliffe an almost-A.

So where do we stand now?
  • Taylor Lautner
  • Shia LaBeouf
  • Daniel Radcliffe
  • Rupert Grint
  • Jesse Eisenberg
  • Kellan Lutz
Recent break-ups? Depends on your definition of recent.

LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan broke up in the latter half of this year. People differ on the exact timeframe. That would probably be the most recent. Lautner and Taylor Swift broke up a year ago, in December '09. Radcliffe's only really publicized breakup went down in '08. But Enty doesn't say recent: he says "a certain break up not too long ago." Seems to indicate that a) it was gossip news and b) it was recentish in Enty time, whatever that is.

That seems to eliminate Radcliffe. LaBeouf and Mulligan seem to have had a sort of lingering breakup, but it was definitely covered. After the final split, she was much-quoted as saying whatever had happened between them was "a long story." Sure, that could cover a lack of sex and obviously not being the "right woman." It would even make sense, in a way, though they dated for some time. But my gut tells me no, that it was something else.

Lautner and Swift, on the other hand, had a short, much-tabbed thing (considered by some to be a fauxmance), and apparently broke up due to "a lack of chemistry." Chemistry does help with the sexin,' I've heard.

Swift and Lautner are the top suspects, by the by, for Ted Casablanca's Priscilla Desert and Parrish Maguire. I say that not because it has any real bearing on Enty's blind, but it's interesting as a sidenote. Priscilla is apparently a virgin herself, and Parrish used her as a beard to cover up his donging antics. Take all that as you will.

My verdict: Taylor Lautner

Now whether it's true or a pick-up line? Couldn't even speculate.
